Family Atlantica is based in London but the band’s roots run deep and wide, with its three core members hailing from London (bandleader and multi-instrumentalist Jack Yglesias), Venezuela (musician/poet/singer — and Yglesias’ wife – Luzmira Zerpa) and Nigeria/Ghana (Kwame “Natural Power” Crentsil on percussion and backing vox).
Over 10 years and two albums, they’ve honed an original sound that reflects their influences as well as today’s London. Cuban and Venezuelan rhythms, Ghanaian highlife, Ethio-blues and other wide-ranging flavors are blended and balanced beautifully with surges and strokes of psychedelia and soul jazz.

Family Atlantica’s eponymous debut was a solid opener, but 2016’s Cosmic Unity (one of our favoritest faves from last year) is truly special. Aided by two living sax legends, afrobeat pioneer Orlando Julius and Sun Ra Arkestra leader Marshall Allen, the album careens back and forth across the group's namesake ocean, blazing through three continents’ worth of traditions and styles with unbridled joy.
Welcome to the family.
