It’s been a cold, rainy first week of fall here on the Colorado Front Range. We couldn’t help but go with a track that fits that mood. Make no mistake: “Should You Go” is absolutely funky. It’s just got the laid back pace and semi-spacey vibe that feels like it feels around here these days.
Skinny Pelembe describes his music as “Afro Psychedelic Soul for surfers and urban explorers alike, from the South African born, UK exiled beatmaker / guitarist.” When we stumbled across this on Gilles Peterson’s recent Brownswood Bubblers compilation, our first thought was “dope!” which was closely followed by “#funkyfriday!”
The track also appears on Pelembe’s August EP release, Seven Year Curse, a great listen from start to finish, and a document that has us looking forward to what Skinny comes up with next. This feels like an artist to keep an ear on.
