As what we hope was a lovely holiday weekend for you draws to a close, let’s ease into this short week with “Slider,” the most recent track from Japanese artist/producer Anchorsong. It’s the latest single to drop in the wake of Ceremonial, his last album and one of our favorite releases of 2016.
Just before making the record, Anchorsong (aka Masaaki Yoshida) got heavily into the West African funk sounds of the 60’s/70’s (e.g., T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo). This influence reveals itself in ways obvious and more subtle, and lends a remarkably organic feel to an all-electronic affair.
Enjoy this warm hit of Afrotech minimalism, from Tokyo.
